Upon a Time’ so here’s everything we
know about Genie Mobile and their Genie SIM Card.</font></p>

upon a time, a British mobile company called BT
Cellnet introduced the Genie Mobile SIM card; in
those days the Genie SIM card offered ‘unlimited’
free genie text and WAP in return for a minimum
monthly £10 spend on voice calls. Genie text
messaging became all the rage. Genie texting from
Genie Mobile carved out a niche of its own and no
one actually rubbed the Genie’s Lamp as far

<p><font size="3" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">WAP
soon became obsolete technology giving way to the
much faster GPRS wireless application protocol and
the free WAP was replaced by a free 1.0 MB download
allowance on GPRS, further download being charged
by the tariff rate per MB.</font></p>
<p><font size="3" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">BT
Cellnet sold Genie Mobile to a new company called
O2 who created an ‘O2 Genie SIM card’
called ‘O2 Online talkalot’ to replace
the old Genie Telecom SMS Genie chip. The Genie
simcard took on a new dimension. Pay as you go O2
Genie simcards now offered 300 free text minutes
+ some free GPRS/MMS deals in return for the £10
a month talk time spend. The old BT Cellnet Genie
sim users were unable to get there older Genie sims
enabled for the GPRS services and they would need
to buy new O2 Genie SIM cards from the O2 Genie
network, loosing the unlimited free Genie texts.</font></p>
<p><font size="3" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">A
recent developments in O2 Genie SIM cards is the
pay monthly Genie card on a 30 day roll over contract,
these O2 Genie SIM cards advertised on the Genie
website offer 1000 Genie text messaging plus a variety
of any-one calls on Genie phones. The Genie Mobile
phone is still very popular but many mourn the passing
of the original Genie UK, the BT Cellnet offering.</font></p>
<p><font size="3" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">I
have one of the original Genie cards with unlimited
text that I purchase some years ago from Genie Mobile
UK. Genie Cellnet alas no longer with us. If you
have one of the original Genie Network cards from
the Online Genie Mobile shop, stick with it until
it no longer functions and you will be forced to
buy the new text genie from O2 Online. Genie O2
is still a great deal for the textaholic though.
